The Children’s Home of Jefferson County Launches Therapeutic Crisis Residence Program (TCRP)
Watertown, New York (September 25, 2024) – For 165 years, CHJC has been providing essential services to those in need across the North Country. Since 2015, CHJC has provided crisis respite services for children and youth on their State Street Campus. After several years of close collaboration with the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) and the Jefferson County Community Services Board, they have launched their revised Therapeutic Crisis Residence Program (TCRP) at 1704 State Street, Cottage 2, Watertown, New York. This program offers crucial support to children dealing with severe emotional or psychological challenges.
TCRP is a vital addition to our community, offering a safe and therapeutic environment where services are delivered through a trauma-informed approach. TCRP aims to stabilize crisis symptoms, prevent unnecessary inpatient hospitalizations, and mobilize resources and community-based support. The facility has a certified capacity of eight beds and is fully equipped to provide comprehensive care aimed at stabilizing children during times of acute distress while identifying supports to prevent/aid in future crises.
Since the original program launch in 2015, CHJC’s TCRP has served hundreds of youths and has been critical in helping youth receive the services they need to remain safe in our community. As mental health remains a paramount crisis in our country, this service will continue to set the North Country apart as a leader in children’s mental health services. TCRP is intended to be a voluntary respite for youth and families to experience care without stigma or judgment. This program is more cost-effective as it delivers high-quality services at lower costs compared to hospital settings. CHJC continuously monitors the program’s performance to ensure it meets the highest standards of care, incorporating evidence-based practices to serve our community better.
