The Childrens Home of Jefferson County Announces New Youth Serving Program

The Children’s Home of Jefferson County (CHJC), the area’s long established non-profit organization, is excited to announce a partnership with the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), Treatment Foster Care Oregon (TFCO), The House of Good Shepherd (HGS), and Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth. This commences an evidence based – culturally responsive, intensive community intervention for at-risk youth and families in the North Country.

To inform and educate community stakeholders, on Friday, March 3, 2023, we are excited to welcome John Aarons, TFCO President and Mary Laws, TFCO Consultant to CHJC’s State Street Campus. Community partners invited include County administrators, representatives from County Government and Community-Based Service Providers. The meeting includes a formal presentation on TFCO’s key principles and opportunities for engagement.

TFCO was developed as an alternative to institutional, residential, and group care placements for children and youth with severe emotional and behavioral disorders. Multiple randomized trials confirm many positive results. The model is tailored to the unique developmental needs of children across all ages. CHJC’s TFCO Program specifically serves children ages 7-11. The model allows for one youth at a time to be placed in a Foster Home for six to twelve months. To promote success, the youth and their discharge resource are provided an increased level of support and services. For more information on TFCO, please visit www.tfcoregon.com.

As essential members of the Treatment Team, CHJC will be working diligently to recruit highly trained Foster Parents. To provide heightened support, Foster Parents, youth, and discharge resources receive 24/7 access to the TFCO Treatment Team. As a member of the team, Foster Families are generously compensated. For more information on becoming a TFCO Foster Parent, please call Karli Kukula at 315-955-9861.

As as new Program, this will bring jobs to the North Country. CHJC is actively recruiting and hiring for members of the TFCO Treatment Team. To learn more about career opportunities at CHJC, please visit www.chjc.org.
